How to get to Siofok

We try to provide you the best information of how you can get to Siofok.
Choose from the following options:

Arrival by car:

There are three directions you can get to Siofok. If you are coming from Budapest the best way is to take M7 highway. From Budapest Siofok is about 105 km away. If you have hired a car at the airport you have to follow the green signs saying M7 or Balaton or Siófok. Unfortunately you have to go through the city as there is no ring around the city. You have to face a bit of waiting in the traffic, but once you are on the highway you do not have to wait any longer. The speed limit on the highways is max. 130km/h. The highways are radar controlled so do not exceed the speed limit. You also have to by vignettes. You can purchase them at petrol stations. You can do it also on the highway itself as the system registers you and you have to buy a vignette within a day. If you don't do this, you will be fined.

There are 3 types of vignettes:

  • 4-day (in 2007 the rate is 1530FT in summer)
  • weekly (in 2007 the rate is 2550FT)
  • monthly (in 2007 the rate is 4200 FT)

There are two exists in Siofok. One is called Siofok kelet. This exists into a road called country road 7. It takes you into Siofok from the east and this exit is about 5 km away from the city center. I suggest you taking it when you want to go to the following parts of Siofok: Szabadifürdő, Sóstó, Balatonszabadi, Golden Beach (Aranypart).
The other exist arrives in the city center. If you want to go to Siófok-Kiliti then turn left to the 4-lane road, if you want to go to the city center or Siofok-Széplak or Töreki then turn right and follow the signs.

If you want to go to Siofok on the road on the south coast of Lake Balaton, then you have to take country road 7. At the weekends it can get very busy. M7 highway also runs parallel to this road, but some parts of it are not ready.

If you are coming from the direction of Austria, then we suggest you to take M1 highway till Budapest and then M7 highway to Siofok. It is a longer road, but faster and you get to Siofok in the same amount of time. If not leave M1 highway at the exist that says Veszprém or Balaton and follow the signs to Balaton or Siófok.
